Kristian’s work in recent years has been of great variety with associations in and outside of jazz, with such artists as Archie Shepp, Tommaso Starace, Will Vinson, Salena Jones, the Puppini Sisters, Jim Hart, Ivo Neame, Lars Dietrich and Jasper Høiby. Kristian is also associated with the progressive London based jazz collective SE Collective through his work with the bands Acrobat and Draw By Four.
Danish guitarist, composer and bandleader, Kristian Borring, has been described as a guitarist of enormous technical ability who utilizes his considerable gifts thoughtfully and tastefully, a highly accomplished guitarist and composer. ~ The Jazz Mann
Based in London, Kristian’s second album as a bandleader Urban Novel (released June 2014) drew inspiration from the cityscape and is a personal homage to life in a metropolis. This has been followed up by his latest work Silent Storm just out in July, both with this line up. Two albums on, the group captures the audience with their tight-knit playing, noted by Julian Joseph - Jazz on BBC radio 3 - as a group exercising strong control and empathy and by John Fordham (The Guardian) as a classy and accomplished group.
Commenting on Kristian’s ability as a strong melodic player, All About Jazz‘s Bruce Lindsey described Kristian’s playing as a warm, open tone - a welcoming sound that draws and holds the attention. Lance Liddle from Bebop Spoken Here added one of the finest, most tasteful and accomplished guitarists on the scene.
Arthur Lea has a diverse style; he has been hammering honky-tonks since his hands could first reach the keys. When performing solo he sings a retro brand of rhythm ‘n’ blues, using irregular riffs with a southern soul.
He performs in and out of London with his own music and other bands, he gigs greatly, writes constantly, promotes events, records, produces, teaches, and generally likes to play.
hard-riffing....excellent pianist....like a 21st-century Thelonious Monk ~ John Fordham, The Guardian
Originally from Waterford, Ireland bassist Mick Coady has been active on the London Jazz scene since his move there over ten years ago. He has recently re-kindled relations with the scene back home in Dublin and has two projects running at present, a trio with guitarist Mike Neilsen and Belfast drummer Dave Lyttle, and his own quartet. In London he is a founding member of the Loop Collective. Coady has also worked with an impressive list of musicians including several visiting Americans. The roll call includes saxophonists Peter King, Scott Hamilton and Ronnie Cuber, pianist Alan Broadbent, vocalist Mark Murphy and cornet specialist Warren Vache. His own quintet Synergy features top US saxophonist David Binney.
Manchester-born, London-based drummer Jon Scott quickly established his reputation as one of the most creative and flexible young players on the UK and European jazz scene. His playing style encompasses a broad range of influences, from the jazz tradition through to contemporary electronic styles. He is a key member of several original projects, as well as being in demand as a sideman. Jon is the regular drummer for groups including 2011 MOBO "Best Jazz" award winners Kairos 4Tet, George Crowley's Can of Worms and Anglo-German collaboration Paragon (nominated for the 2012 Neuer Deutsche Jazzpreis). He works frequently with Hannes Riepler, Jim Mullen and in addition he has performed/recorded with artists including Chris Cheek, David Binney, Julian Argüelles, Will Vinson, Julian Siegel, Julian Joseph, Byron Wallen and Kit Downes.
Hyper-cool approach to jazz guitar... with warmth, confidence and a rhythmic hipness that's thoroughly contemporary. ~ John Fordham (The Guardian)
